Oasis Knebworth Revisited 20th Anniversary Edition [First Draft] (Read 590 times) Read more: http://live4ever.proboards.com/thread/85975/knebworth-revisited-anniversary-edition-first#ixzz4XtqxARvF bizzzffla21****
Hi all,
Someone recently dug up an old thread of mine which I thought had been long forgotten about (http://live4ever.proboards.com/thread/69832/knebworth-remastered-dvd-project-help). It made me think I should share what I created even if it is unfinished. I'm sure some of you would be interested to hear it.
The project was put on hold a few years ago due to relocating across the country, buying/doing up a house and having our first child. I had all intentions to go back to it but then they announced that it was going to be officially released for the 20th anniversary so it seemed pointless. Obviously this turned out to be false and we got Supersonic instead.
I had spent a long time finding footage and audio. I'd gathered all the content I needed for the concert portion and a fair amount of extras/interviews and soundbites I wanted to use for the commentary track.
Back then I had only got as far a creating a rough version of the stereo audio track, which I combined all the sources I'd found. I made what I believe is the only complete version of the show (11/08/96) from start to finish without cuts and no radio talk/jingles over the top.
I dug it out and gave it another listen, while not perfect I think it still sounds ten times better than the BBC version. First a foremost it sounds like what it is, a BIG outside gig!
I always thought the broadcast versions sounded flat and unexciting. I wanted to try and make it sound like the old Mark Coyle live mixes. Some purists and audiophiles would probably hate it but I'd rather it sounds in your face, live and exciting than worrying too much about the dynamic range. Oasis are known for their smashed mixes so I don't think a live mix should be any different.
I tried loads of little tricks, such as trying to create separate tracks for each instrument by using only those frequencies and then mixing them together from the different sources. Different EQ's, reverbs, compressors, noise gates and a hint of effects.
The hardest section was the end of the show from the BHN tracks on wards where the only audio is from the bootleg video version, the broadcast versions all have the audio from the 10th show edited in. I have managed to make them more listenable, full sounding and less harsh. But when you listen to them next to the pro recorded tracks they still aren't great. CS and IATW are so messy anyway with John Squire widdling all over them it's had to make them sound any other way! :-)
Anyway, I've finally got my arse into gear and uploaded it for anyone who would like to hear these versions. Not sure where people upload things these days so I've put it here...

Would love to hear what you think and any feedback you might have.
...and maybe one day I'll get a chance edit it together with video and play around with the visuals as I'd originally intended.

Well, this was a challenge. As I said before, all sources from this show has some issue.
There´s any proper recording of this show. Even the Super Golden Radio Show CD, that claims to be a radio promo, sounds awful. To me, is a bad FM capture. I say this beacause I tried to work on it, but the quality sound was not constant. Plus that, the Be Here Now promo from this show is far better quality than this ´radio promo´.
All of the sources has some speed problems or sound in a lower key. This particular source had both, but was the best I could find.
The sound now is clearer, well balanced and way better than all of the other sources.
I fixed the speed of the songs, that in some cases, it was different within the same song.
I had to patch a little piece of Magic Pie that was running too fast. This was really noticeable starting the song.
Plus that, I fixed the beginning of some songs that were cut.
*** Fade In-Out was not complete as it is claimed in the original notes.
There was a little portion of the song missing, but has been patched with the source available from the Earls Court 97 set broadcasted on TV ***
Includes artwork and tags.
Download
I hope you enjoy this version.
If you like it, and think that it deserves to be shared, do it!!!!

OK so this really is the best version out there that has the COMPLETE gig..
We've currently came across rips on various forums that have this info file but in fact, are the incomplete gigs.
THIS IS COMPLETE.. No skips, no cuts, not a mislabled CD etc.. Check your CD to confirm if you have it or not

The label bills this release as a "Stereo Soundboard Recording" as it did with the similar release "Giants Stadium 2009." Interestingly enough, I feel the claim of this being an actual soundboard tape may actually be true, even though the last known soundboard tape to leak out of Camp Bruce was from 1993. To my ears, it doesn't have the thin, almost hollow quality of most IEM recordings, and the lack of obnoxious audience noise (like the screamers & the talkers) make it seem less like an IEM-audience recording mix. That is not to say it sounds dry & sterile, which it does not- there is audience noise at the expected parts that are not intrusive to the music. And as far as the music goes-it is grand, with a nice, full balanced mix (for the most part). Therefore, if it is a mix of some variety of multiple IEMs and an audience source, it is one of the most skillfull mixes ever made. I just don't feel that it is. How this tape ever made it out to the public, I don't know-but Springsteen fans everywhere should rejoice to have such fantastic quality shows available given Bruce & his management's obtuse reluctance to just put out live show downloads as many other artists have. I just hope these great tapes keep coming. Although these shows have already made the rounds in great quality, this particular release offers yet more versions to add to the ranks. How does this release rank in comparison to the others? The source of the Wild & Innocent show is the same as the Crystal Cat release from last year, although this version to me is superior. Why? Because it doesn't have the eardrum-splitting, over-the-top compression on it that Crystal Catunfortunately applied to the source. The music is natural and has room to breathe here, as it sounded that night in the arena. This release also avoids Crystal Cat's problematic choice to split Incident On 57th Street & Rosalita between 2 discs. The natural flow of the show is intact, with the split occuring at the more logical point between Wild Billy's Circus Story & Incident, as it occurs on the original LP. The best part of this release of The River show, which is a completely new source from all of the currently circulating sources. The quality is again outstanding, with a nice natural and full sound. To have an excellent sonic document of the best concert I have ever seen by Bruce (or any other artist) since I started seeing him in 2000 is a blessing. Indeed, I feel November 8, 2009 still stands as the best show Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band performed since 1999, through and including the recent 2012 European stadium run. It was simply that good. The band had an energy flowing from that stage that night like I have never witnessed, and were locked into playing off one another, as if they were 30 years younger themselves. The outing of such long-forgotten jems as The Price You Pay, Stolen Car, Fade Away & Wreck On The Highway would expectedly be shaky at best-but the band absolutely nailed each and every song with laser focused intensity. Even the more common tracks like Two Hearts, Ramrod, and Out In The Street seemed to have just a little more joy to them. Most importantly, in playing the whole of The River, the show had that dramatic arc of many emotions which had been so lacking in many of the shows from 2009. Not that November 7, 2009 is anything subpar, for the full performance of The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle is simply exquisite. If the rest of the show feels somewhat "ordinary" it is due to the fact that the album performance overshadows the rest of it by a long mile. Here we have what I consider to be the absolute definitve versions of 2 of my favorite Springsteen songs, Incident On 57th Street and New York City Serenade, bar none. The addition of the strings and the congas to New York City Serenade, as present on the original album version, give it a totally unique feeling and texture that was sorely absent in other performances, and Bruce's vocal delivery is absolutely sublime. On Incident, again the band nails the dynamics of the song with sheer precision, and Bruce concludes it with a fierce guitar solo that launches it into the stratosphere. Elsewhere, E Street Shuffle and Kitty's Back absolutely smoke with the addition of a horn section. Add in fine performances of Human Touch, one of my "guilty pleasures" from the Springsteen songbook, a fantastic Thundercrack, and a seething version of Seeds and you have one fine show indeed. To have them in this sound quality make this a must-have release. |

Bruce Springsteen - Alone In Colts Neck
(Studio FLAC) lineage Silver CD > EAC(secure) > SHN > Traders little helper verified SHN > WAV > FLAC Level8. The Complete Nebraska Session Colts Neck, New Jersey December 1981 - January 1982 from THE LOST MASTERS I: Alone In Colts Neck Labour Of Love LOVE 001 Artwork included Volume 1, was the gem of the Lost Masters set for many people. The long-awaited original acoustic version of Born in the USA can finally be heard, and the true meaning of the song cannot be ignored in an arrangement somewhat similar to the solo acoustic tour version, albeit a bit faster. One has to wonder how differently the song would have been received had this version been released. Downbound Train was another song supposedly recorded for Nebraska, and, it must be said, was done a favour when Bruce and the E Street Band later recorded it for Born in the USA. Child Bride is essentially Working on the Highway but slowed down tremendously, and some say that Child Bride is better than it's album counterpart; a friend said that if the entrepreneurs behind the Lost Masters were ever tried, they could play Child Bride back to back with Working on the Highway and they would be acquitted. Another interesting note is the song Losin' Kind about a couple who commit a crime before crashing their car in the snow, essentially the same song as Highway 29, released almost 14 years later on The Ghost of Tom Joad album. 01.Nebraska (4:27) 02.Atlantic City (4:02) 03.Mansion On The Hill (4:00) 04.Born In The U.S.A.
